The Windows Setup application is one of the most important applications when you want to customize and configure your operating system. It offers many options that allow the user to customize the settings according to their preferences. Slowly but surely, the Settings application also activates a blackout of the Control Panel, depending on the number of functions this application offers. In this case it causes a real headache when your Windows 10 settings are not opened properly.

If you do not open the settings, the configuration options will not be accessible to the user. In addition, if you cannot open the Settings program, you will not be able to solve several other problems in the Windows 10 operating system. For example, if Windows 10 is not in sleep mode or if the file explorer is not working, it is almost impossible to solve these problems if the installation application freezes.

Windows 10 solutions settings do not open the problem

It is incredibly important that the program Settings works perfectly to solve all other problems on your Windows computer. If you are unable to access your settings, here are some solutions to help you solve the problem.

1. Use the short keyboard description

The default method for opening the Settings application is to click on the logo in the Start menu, type Settings in the search box, and click Open. However, if this method does not work, press the Windows + I key combination.

If your Windows 10 settings do not open, you can use the Run window. Press Win + R to open the Run window and type ms settings: in the address bar. Press Enter to run the command and open the Settings window. You can also try to open the Settings window from the Action Center. These methods will also help you to determine if there is a problem with the settings of the application and to have them open.

2. Checking registry and group policy settings

If you cannot open the settings in Windows 10, use the group policy and registry settings to verify that the application has been activated.

To do this, open the Register Editor from the Start menu or run the regedit command in the Run window.

Then follow the next path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorer

If you cannot find a browser, right-click on Policies and select New button to create a new one.

Then select New, right-click in the right window and select New. Select a DWORD (32-bit) value. Rename it after NoControlPanel.

User configurationAdministrative templatesControl panel

Now double-click on Deny access to the control panel and PC settings and turn them off. Click Apply and select OK to save the settings. After these two checks, the application will run smoothly on your computer with the Windows 10 settings.

3. Perform CFS and DISM scan

The System File Checker scan, better known as the SFC scan, is used to identify and correct damaged system files on your computer. If the system files are corrupted for any reason, the Windows 10 settings will not open properly. To avoid this, follow the instructions to perform a file check using the command line window.

To perform a DISM scan, open a command prompt with administrative rights.

alt=width open command line=640 height=377 data-ezsrc=http://server.digimetriq.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1608964794_586_Windows-10-Settings-Wont-Open-9-Solutions-To-Fix-It.png data-ez= />Select run as administrator for command line

Now enter the following command:

DISM.exe /Online /Image cleanup /Restore health state

alt= start pick-up command width=640 height=407 data-ezsrc=http://server.digimetriq.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1608964795_171_Windows-10-Settings-Wont-Open-9-Solutions-To-Fix-It.png data-ezsrc=http://server.digimetriq.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1608964795_171_Windows-10-Settings-Wont-Open-9-Solutions-To-Fix-It.png data-ez= />Start DISM scan

Once the process is complete, restart your computer and check that the application is working with the Windows 10 settings.

If the DISM scan does not work, try using a USB stick or installation DVD and execute the following command.

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /Source:C:RepairSourceWindows /LimitAccess

Replace C:RepairSourceWindows with the path to your USB or DVD.

Deployment Image Scanning (DISM) is used to implement a system image and update all system functions.

4. Convenience store update

The next way to solve the application problem with Windows 10 settings is to run the diagnostic program Update. Many users are used to update their operating system via the Settings application. Here, we’ll do it through the control panel.

In the Start menu search box, type the Control Panel and open it. Then click on View and select Large icons.

Now select the Troubleshooting option from the list of available options.

alt= sample width=640 height=451 data-ezsrc=http://server.digimetriq.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1608964796_706_Windows-10-Settings-Wont-Open-9-Solutions-To-Fix-It.png data-ez= />Open troubleshooting

In the System and Security pane, click Troubleshoot Windows Update.

alt=click fix system update width=640 height=352 data-ezsrc=http://server.digimetriq.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1608964797_417_Windows-10-Settings-Wont-Open-9-Solutions-To-Fix-It.png data-ez= />Troubleshooting Windows Update

When the Windows Update window opens, click Next and follow the on-screen instructions to start the diagnostic program.

alt=select next width=622 height=480 data-ezsrc=http://server.digimetriq.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1608964798_622_Windows-10-Settings-Wont-Open-9-Solutions-To-Fix-It.png />Click Next.

Verify that the Windows Setup application is running after the diagnosis is completed.

5. Reinstall the setup application using Powershell

If you can’t open Windows 10 Settings after applying all of the above solutions, consider reinstalling the Settings program using Powershell.

To get started, open a Powershell window with administrator rights in the Search field of the Start menu. Then enter the following command.

Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml}.

alt= Run Powerhell width=640 height=288 data-ezsrc=http://server.digimetriq.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1608964799_490_Windows-10-Settings-Wont-Open-9-Solutions-To-Fix-It.png data-ez= /> Run command

If the Microsoft Windows settings do not open after using this command, try logging in with another user account and see if the settings option works.

6. Creating a new user account

If the Windows settings do not open properly, try creating a new user profile using the command prompt. However, you will need to make some changes to the Microsoft Common Console document.

To create a new user account, open the Run window and execute the following command:

lusrmgr.msc

In the left pane, right-click on the Users folder and select New User.

Enter your username and password.

If you have Windows 10 Home, you must use the command line to create a new user account.

Open a command prompt as a user with administrator rights and type the following command.

network user new username new password /add

Make sure you replace the terms new username and new password with the actual username and password you are going to use.

Then type another command and press the Enter key.

username /add for local group network operators

alt= Execute commands 1 width=640 height=295 data-ezsrc=http://server.digimetriq.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1608964800_347_Windows-10-Settings-Wont-Open-9-Solutions-To-Fix-It.png data-ez= /> Execute commands

Now go to Control Panel, select User accounts and select Manage another account. Select the newly created user account and change the account type in Administrator.

Then you need to log out of your account and log in with a new account. Ideally, the parameterisation application should work according to this method.

7. Installing Windows Update

If you have not installed the latest Microsoft Windows 10 updates, this may be the reason why your Windows 10 settings do not open and function properly.

The only way to update Windows 10 without the program Settings is to use the Windows 10 Update directory. You need to find the latest update, download it from the Windows Update directory and install it.

Another way to check for updates is to use the command line.

Type cmd in the search box of the Start menu and click Run as Administrator. Then enter the following command.

wuauclt.exe /updateow

alt=update command width=640 height=303 data-ezsrc=http://server.digimetriq.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/1608964800_623_Windows-10-Settings-Wont-Open-9-Solutions-To-Fix-It.png data-ez= />update command execute

After executing this command, wait until the update process is complete and the PC is restarted. Then check if the application settings are working.

8. Delete single theatre

If you have a Lenovo notebook, you need to uninstall the Onekey Theater application. This is a pre-installed application on your PC that can sometimes damage the application settings. To uninstall this application, select Control Panel from the Start menu. Then change the display mode by clicking on the large icons.

Touch Programs and Features. Then find the Onekey Theater in the list of options and delete it.

Make sure the Settings program is working again.

9. Microsoft Windows reset 10

Users should make sure that they have tried all methods before proceeding with this solution. Before reinstalling Windows 10, we recommend backing up important files for security reasons.

To start the reset process, open the Start menu and press the Power button. Now hold down the Shift key and simultaneously press the restart key.

In the next window you have three options. Click on Reset this PC.

Then you have to choose between Delete All or Save My Files, depending on whether you want to delete or save all files. To restore the default settings, you can use the Save My Files option.

The next Windows window will warn you that you cannot return to the previous version. Click on Next to continue.

You will then see all the actions that take place during the reset process. Click on the Reset button and select Next in the next window to start the reset process. Reboot the PC and check if the setup application is working properly.
