It is a universal Linux distribution, relatively light and flexible to use. Arch Linux makes it possible to update advanced software and packages when the developer releases them. Arch Linux is an excellent option to install if you are an advanced Linux user or if you want to replace your current operating system on your device. Although the steps to install Arch Linux are a bit complicated, we thought it would be best to guide you.

How to install Arch Linux

You can use the following procedure to install Arch Linux.


  • compatible machine
  • PC or VM with 512 MB RAM
  • 2 GB free disk space
  • USB stick with 2 GB memory
  • DVD burning software
  • Active internet connection

1. Backup of your PC

Before we continue, we backup your PC to an external hard drive. This is very important because the installation of Arch Linux involves the removal of the current operating system.

2. Download Linux ISOarchive

  • Visit in your PC browser.
  • Click on the link of the torrent.
  • Use a torrent client such as. B. uTorrent or BitTorrent to download the file.
  • Proceed to the next step when the Arch Linux boot is finished.

3. Save ISO image to DVD

Connect an empty DVD drive to your computer to burn the Arch Linux ISO file. You can use various programs such as AnyBurn, Brasero etc. to burn the ISO image to a DVD.

Pay attention: Skip this step if you plan to install Arch Linux on virtual machines.

4. Reboot PC

Depending on your desktop operating system, you may need to use the appropriate keys to restart your computer.

Pay attention: On a Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences > Start > External Drive > Restart.

5. Changing the loading sequence

Press the F12 key on the latest computer models. If you cannot find it, press the BIOS setting key, usually F1, F2, F10 or Del.

Pay attention: Mac users can just skip this step.

6. Select the installation disk as the main startup disk.

Select the DVD or floppy disk drive on which Arch Linux is installed and press + to set it as the primary drive. For some devices, you may need to select the Advanced tab or select Startup options.

7. Save and select output

Look in the lower right corner of the screen to click Save and complete the setting. This allows the restart of your device to continue.

8. Linux boot selection

Once you have selected Boot Arch Linux, you can press Enter. This will launch the Arch Linux Installer and you will have to partition the disk.

Steps for making partitions

1. Checking Existing Hard Disk Drives.

  • Open a command prompt and type -1 as fdisk, then press Enter.
  • Find the largest drive that looks like /dev/sda

2. Create a swap partition

  • It is important to create a swap partition to save the system backup. Choose New and choose Enter. Then select Basic and press the Enter key.
  • You must enter the number of megabytes and press the Enter key. B. 1024 for one gigabyte. Select End and press Enter.

Pay attention: It is important that the swap partition is two to three times the size of the main memory. For example, you need to create a swap partition of 8192 or 12288 megabyte on 4 GB of RAM.

3. Creating a primary hard drive partition

Select Pri/Log Fresh Space and select New to press Enter. Then select Basic and press the Enter key. Check the size in the MB header and press Enter. Select the main partition again to choose the download option and press Enter.

4. Switching partition

  • Select Swap Partition, select Type and press Enter.
  • Enter as number 82 and press the Enter key.
  • Now select Record and press the Enter key.
  • Type yes and press Enter.

5. Record the name of the discharge

Navigate in the left column to find the name sda1 next to the swap partition. You will also find the sda2 next to the main distribution. Make sure that both names are suitable for partition formatting.

6. Select output

To exit the cfdisk, select Exit and press Enter.

Enter the following on the command line

mkfs.ext4 /dev/ [primary partition name] press Enter. For example: mkfs.ext4 /dev/sda2

At the command line prompt, type the following to install Arch Linux.

  • mkswap /dev/ [partition name] and press the Enter key.
  • Type as swapon /dev/sda1 and press Enter.

Steps for installing Arch Linux

1. WiFi configuration

Type the following commands in order and press Enter after each command

  • ip-link to find the name of the network adapter
  • pacman -S iq wpa_supplicant to install the necessary software
  • pacman -S WiFi menu setup dialog
  • pcmon -S wpa_action to install software that automatically connects you to the networks you know.
  • systemctl activates [e-mail protected] to activate the automatic login service.
  • wifi menu interface name to use the wireless menu for your adapter.

2. Attaching the basic system

Enter /mnt base drop base as the batch tape and press Enter. You should wait about 15 to 30 minutes while the system is installed.

3. Free access to the chroot database

Type /mnt as the arch root and press Enter. This allows you to change certain aspects of the root folder, including passwords.

4. Setting Password

To login to the root account with the password, you must enter the following information.

  • Enter the password and press the Enter key.
  • Enter the password and press the Enter key.
  • Confirm the password with the Enter key.

5. Language setting

  • Type nano /ec/local.gen and press the Enter key.
  • Scroll to select a language
  • You can select the available letter for the # symbol next to the language. Press Del.
  • Remove the # symbol from any other language version.
  • Press Ctrl+O and the Enter key.
  • To exit, press the key combination Ctrl+X.
  • Enter as local generator and press Enter.

6. Select time zone

  • Type as CD use/action/field and press Enter.
  • Now type ls and press the Enter key.
  • Select the country or region and type cd usr/share/zoneinfo/ country and press Enter. For example: cd usr/share/zoneinfo/Australia.
  • Type ls and press the Enter key.
  • Select your desired time zone by entering ln -s/usr/share/zoneinfo/country/time zone /etc/localtime and pressing Enter.

7. Set the host name for the PC

Type as echo name > /etc/hostname and press Enter. For example: echo tech0wns > /etc/hostname

8. Download GRUBboot loader

Type grub-bios like pacman -S and press Enter to install Arch Linux. You must enter y and press the enter key

9. GRUBset

To install it, type /dev/drive name as grub-install and press Enter.

10. Create an initialization file

Type mkinitcpio -p linux and press Enter to save the hardware information of the device for use with Linux.

11. Creating a configuration for GRUB

Type grub-mkconfig -0/boot/grup/grub.cfg and press Enter.

12. Create the fstab file to

Type asfstab /mnt >> /mnt/etc/fstab and press Enter. This identifies the file system of the partition.

13. Restart your computer and log in to youraccount.

  • To restart, type how to disconnect /mnt and press Enter. Then type a restart and press the Enter key.
  • To login to your account, type root in the login field and press Enter. Now enter the password and press the Enter key.
