Problems with the Google Play Store are quite rare. But when they occur, they have a definite impact on the user experience. That’s how much Android depends on Google’s services as a platform. Unless you use custom ROMs to avoid Google like the plague. This is something few Android users do.

For example, the issue we are dealing with today is related to the 495 error code that appears when users want to download or update applications from the Play Store. If this or a similar error occurs, check the following solutions.

Table of contents :

  1. Removing data from the Google Play Store
  2. Clear data for additional services
  3. Check for possible connection problems
  4. Delete and add a Google Account
  5. Deleting updates from the Google Play Store
  6. Resetting the Google Play Store with APK
  7. Restoring the unit to factory settings

Why can’t I install applications from the Google Play Store?

While this error rarely occurs on devices that come standard with Google services, it can happen from time to time. Of course, we cannot guarantee that the solutions presented here will work for custom ROMs with side loading of gapps, although they can be used. Usually, the best solution to a Play Store problem is to delete the Play Store data or remove updates.

You can also check your network connection, reset the version with the APK and finally reset your device to factory settings.

1. Removing data from Google Play Store

Let’s start with removing local data from the Google Play Store application. There’s a good chance the data has been corrupted. This usually happens after a system update (which is why we recommend formatting your data before upgrading to a newer version of Android). However, this can happen for several reasons. In any case, it should disappear after you clear the data from the memory and restart the device.

Delete data from the Google Play Store on your Android device :

  1. Open the settings.
  2. Select Apps and notifications (Apps).
  3. Open all applications (App Manager or Manage applications on some devices).
  4. Outdoor games shop.
  5. Click on the share.

  1. Delete the data and restart the device.

2. Deletion of ancillary services data

It is unlikely that the Google Play Store will work on its own. There are more than a few closed services that run in the background and make sure everything works as expected on your Android. The two main areas we will focus on are Google Play services and the Google Services Framework. As in the previous step, we need to delete the data and go back to the Play Store.

Learn how to remove data from Google Play services and the Google Services Framework:

  1. Open the settings.
  2. Select Apps and notifications (Apps).
  3. Develop all applications (Application Manager or Application Management).
  4. Tap the three-step menu and select View System Processes.
  5. Open the Google Services framework from the list of available applications.
  6. Click on the share.
  7. Press Delete Memory and confirm selection.

Fix: Google Play Store error code 495

  1. You can do the same for Google Play services. Make sure you select the Delete all data option.
  2. Restart your device, open the Google Play Store and try to download the applications again.

If you still receive error code 495 or 492, follow the steps below.

3. Check for possible connection problems

Now, if you open the Google Play Store while your Wi-Fi connection is down, you’ll usually get a notification that you’re actually offline. However, some users have seen many errors caused by, you guessed it, connection problems. Therefore, make sure you are connected to a stable Wi-Fi network before proceeding to the next step. You can test it in any connectivity dependent application.

When you are sure that the network is working as expected, proceed to the next step. If not, try the steps below:

  • Restart your device.
  • Forget the network and reconnect.
  • Temporary interruption of broadband activities on other devices (downloading, streaming at HQ, etc.)
  • Temporarily disable Bluetooth and NFC.
  • Reset the network settings.

4. Deleting and adding a Google Account

The problem may also be that the Google Play service cannot access your Google Account. As you probably know, the Play Store cannot be used without a Google account. And sometimes, even when you’re logged in, things don’t work as expected. The best way to solve this problem is to simply delete the account and add it again.

Learn how to delete and add a Google account on Android :

  1. Open the settings.
  2. Select the accounts.
  3. Open a Google Account.
  4. Delete the account and restart the unit.

Fix: Google Play Store error code 495

  1. Sign in again with the same account, open the Play Store and try to install or update applications.

5. Deleting updates from the Google Play store

If you still get a 495 error code when trying to download applications, you can try uninstalling the updates from the Play Store. Since you can’t uninstall and reinstall the program, you can at least reset it to factory settings and try again. Many users have solved the problem this way.

For information on removing updates from the Google Play Store, click here :

  1. Go again to Settings > Applications > All applications.
  2. Open the Google Play Store.
  3. Tap the three-point menu and delete updates.

Fix: Google Play Store error code 495

  1. Restart your device, connect to the network and wait for the store to update.

6. Back to Google Play Store via APK

You can also use the APK to rewind or force an update on the Google Play Store. This is another workable solution, especially if the problem persists after the previous recommendations we have listed. If you downgrade or update from the Google Play Store, issues with the current version shouldn’t matter.

Learn how to bring back the Play Store with APC here:

  1. Remove updates for Google Play services.
  2. Go to the APK Mirror site here, or use another APK aggregator you trust.
  3. Download APK. We recommend that the KPA is no older than 3 months. You can also get a more recent beta or alpha version. Basically everything except the version you are currently using (the latest stable release).
  4. Run the APK and allow third-party applications (unknown sources) to be installed on your device when prompted.
  5. Reboot the device after update/disconnection.

7. Restoring the unit to factory settings.

Finally, if none of the above solutions work, you can always go back to the factory settings and start from scratch. If you’re not sure which standard your device belongs to, check out our article on the subject here.

  1. First, go to Settings > System > Backup and save all application settings and data. Also, be sure to connect the device to a PC and back up all media files. You can also use Google Photos to back up all the photos on your device. You will need your Google Account password later.
  2. If you’re sure it’s safe to remove, go to Settings > System > Reset Advanced Options.
  3. Select Reset.
  4. Please confirm your choice.
  5. After restarting your device, use your Google Account to restore applications, contacts, call logs, messages, and sign-in data from the Wi-Fi network.

That should be enough. Thanks for reading, follow us on Facebook and Twitter and leave your questions or alternative solutions we may have missed in the comments section below.
