We need to connect to the internet from our laptops and desktops for various reasons: Work, play, shop or learn online. Normally a Wi-Fi connection is automatically established when the computer is turned on. However, when you try to connect to this network in Windows 10, you may see the message Could not connect to this network under your Wi-Fi connection.

This may be due to network driver issues, loose connections, coverage issues, hardware problems, or some other type of temporary glitch. A network error may prevent you from connecting to your Windows 10 computer’s wireless network. Fortunately, this problem can be solved with a few workarounds and adjustments.

First corrective action for errorCannot connect to this network.

Hopefully, the initial checks and solutions will help you resolve network connectivity issues. We recommend that you go through the initial workarounds first before moving on to the real solutions. If the first secondary solutions solve the fact that Windows 10 cannot connect to that network, you will be spared.

1. Restarting the PC

A reboot can help you solve temporary system problems. So if you can’t connect to a wireless network because of temporary connection problems, a reboot may solve the problem.

Click the Windows logo in the taskbar and then click the power button. Click on the Restart option.

alt=Start the computer data-ezsrc=http://server.digimetriq.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/19-Solutions-To-Fix-Cant-Connect-To-This-Network-In.png />Start the computer

After the restart, try to connect to the wireless network again.

2. Go to the same room as Wi-Fi

If you are in another room, far away from the Wi-Fi router, the chances of network interference are high. Walls can prevent you from connecting to Wi-Fi in another room. You can go to the same room where the WiFi modem/router is located and try to connect to WiFi.

3. Make sure Wi-Fi is on.

You cannot connect to a wireless network if Wi-Fi is turned off in system settings. Many laptops also have a physical switch to turn WiFi on and off. You can check the physical Wi-Fi switch in your PC’s manual and turn it on to connect to the wireless network from the computer.

To turn on WiFi through Settings, press the Windows key + I to open the Settings application and go to Network and Internet.

In the left pane, go to Wi-Fi and turn on the switch under Wi-Fi so that it is on.

alt=Wi-Fi Startup data-ezsrc=http://server.digimetriq.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/1616959453_690_19-Solutions-To-Fix-Cant-Connect-To-This-Network-In.png />Wi-Fi Startup

After turning on Wi-Fi, you can try to connect to the Wi-Fi connection of your choice.

4. Check if flight mode is off.

If you have enabled airplane mode on your system, you will not be able to connect to a wireless network and you will see an error message saying you cannot connect to that network! You need to disable Airplane Mode in the settings to resolve the error message Unable to connect to this network in Windows 10.

To disable Flight Mode, go to Settings ➜ Network and Internet, and then click Flight Mode in the left pane.

Slide the switch under Flight Mode to the left to turn it off.

This will solve minor problems in this regard.

6. Reboot modem and WLAN router

You can restart your home’s wireless modem and router to solve the problem of Windows 10 not being able to connect to that network. The procedure for restarting the router and modem may be different. Follow the instructions below to find out how to do this.

Unplug the router and the modem. If your modem has a backup battery, remove it as well. Now wait a moment (about 30 seconds) and reconnect the router and modem to a power source.

If you have removed the battery from the modem, replace it. Try again to establish a connection between the wireless network and the PC.

7. Check connectivity to other devices.

If you cannot connect to the network with only one computer, other devices can easily connect to the wireless network. You can use your mobile phone or another computer to connect to WiFi. This will reveal whether the problem is in your system or in the network as a whole. If neither device connects to the wireless network, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

8. Try pinging the default gateway on router.

Another way to find out if there is a problem between your internal connection or modem and your ISP is to try pinging your wireless router’s default gateway. The output of this ping will help you narrow down the problem.

After selecting a command prompt from the search results, type cmd from the Start menu and click Run as Administrator.

alt=Open command line as administrator data-ezsrc=http://server.digimetriq.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/1616959456_35_19-Solutions-To-Fix-Cant-Connect-To-This-Network-In.png />Open command line as administrator

In the terminal window, type ipconfig and press Enter. Now check the WiFi connection in the output of the command and note down the default gateway as shown in the screenshot below.
