As permanent laser hair removal has grown in popularity over the past few years, it is worth remembering the essentials to know before taking the plunge.

CAN ANYONE PRACTICE LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

False.
In France, only dermatologists and plastic surgeons are authorized to perform this procedure . Beauticians are not allowed to perform laser hair removal .

An appointment with a specialist doctor will allow you to benefit from a medical examination and a complete assessment so that your treatment can be carried out safely. An assistant can perform hair removal under the responsibility and monitoring of a doctor.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL DOES NOT APPLY TO DARK AND DARK SKIN?

False.
There are several laser technologies that can be adapted to all skin types, from the lightest to the darkest.

The doctors qualified and experienced in laser hair removal will offer you after a complete assessment the laser adapted to your skin tone and your hairiness. Our medical center is equipped with a latest generation laser for waxing dark to black skin.

ARE THERE ANY PRECAUTIONS TO TAKE BEFORE A SESSION?

True. Tanning is the main contraindication to laser hair removal.

It is indeed imperative to respect certain precautions:

  • No sun exposure, no self-tanner, no UV sessions in the 6 weeks preceding each session.
  • No waxing, tweezing or electric hair removal.
  • No photosensitizing drugs.

CAN LASER HAIR REMOVAL CAUSE SERIOUS BURNS?

True. The intensity of the laser must be adapted to each patient according to their skin type and hairiness. Improper adjustment of the laser can cause serious damage to the skin, which is why it is important that laser hair removal treatment is carried out under the supervision of a qualified and experienced doctor.

CAN LASER HAIR REMOVAL POSE RISKS?

True. Even if these risks are often temporary and without seriousness, they exist:

Burns, pigmentation disorders, redness, edema.

Permanent laser hair removal does not present any danger if the contraindications are respected.

ARE THERE MANY COUNTERINDICTIONS?

False. There are few contraindications to laser, these are temporary and only last for the duration of the treatment.

The sun, tanning and certain medicines are the main enemies of permanent hair removal.

IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL PAINFUL?

True and False . The notion of “pain” is specific to each.

In the context of laser hair removal the pain is similar to tingling more or less intense depending on the areas and the hair.

This pain can be alleviated by applying an anesthetic cream before each session.

CAN LASER HAIR REMOVAL BE CARCINOGENIC?

False . Lasers used for hair removal emit beams of light, not ultraviolet rays.

These infrared lights even at high power are not carcinogenic.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL IS ONLY FOR WOMEN?

False . Men can also benefit from laser technology for hair removal and know about laser treatment cost.

The only difference is that the laser hair removal will not be total because of the testosterone which stimulates hair growth.

Laser hair removal in humans will refine and seriously delay regrowth, but annual maintenance sessions will be necessary to perfect the result.

IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL THE BEST TECHNIQUE TO PERMANENTLY GET RID OF HAIR?

True. Laser hair removal is permanent in the sense that the destroyed hairs will grow back more but it is not complete because depending on age and hormonal changes new hairs may appear.

The results obtained with the laser are around 90% to 95% hair loss, which is why we easily speak of “permanent” hair removal.

Permanent hair removal follow-up appointments

After two appointments canceled during confinement, I went to my cosmetic doctor to resume the hair removal process, session number 3. This time, we will therefore do the total: bikini line, armpits and legs. My hairs have had time to grow back, but much less and above all, they are thinner and thinner.

Note: I only have two-three very thin on each armpit, after more than 2 months of hiatus! In fact, the practitioner pushed the power of the machine a little far for me: I was in pain! Particularly on the armpits and bikini areas. So much so that I had to ask him to stop and lower the power. This session was nothing short of fun. However nothing to report on the legs, I must be insensitive in this area.

At the 4th appointment (one for the armpit-bikini line and one for the half-legs, spaced 3 weeks apart), I no longer have any hair on my armpits . The practitioner still re-treated the area. Very little hair on the bikini area, almost none on the half-legs, or very fine, you can only see them in grazing light. I had less pain than last time on the bikini-armpit area, despite a laser that is getting stronger.

On the other hand, for the first time I had pain in the half-legs, to the point of asking to reduce the power. The doctor explains it by a history of hormonal sensitivity due to the period of my cycle, because I was about to have my period.

Next appointment at the beginning of October, with a stop during the summer, the promise not to expose myself for 4 weeks after the last appointment and a period of time to “de-bond”.

Laser hair removal: is it really permanent?

When you opt for laser hair removal, it is often because you are trying to get rid of your hair permanently. Does laser hair removal really allow to obtain a permanent result? Focus on this system and its drawbacks.

Laser hair removal, an effective system

The laser hair removal is definitely much more effective than other types of waxing and the electric epilator . Indeed, the power of the laser makes it possible to attack the base of the hair, the hair bulb and to modify its cells to prevent it from producing other hairs. Therefore, you will not actually see any regrowth anymore. But still be careful not to put too many expectations on this type of hair removal. When we zoom in on laser hair removal, we realize that the term “definitive” is sometimes considered too strong by professionals who prefer to speak of permanent hair removal. Indeed, even if the area seems clean and well shaved at the end of the laser hair removal sessions, we must not forget that all the resting hair bulbs that have escaped in contact with the laser will continue to produce hairs. This is why it is often necessary to plan several sessions before obtaining the expected permanent result.

The disadvantages of laser hair removal

The laser hair removal only affects hairs that have finished growing. It is not at all effective on down and depending on the type of hair, laser hair removal can become more complicated. This is particularly the case for white, red or blond hairs which contain less melanin and which therefore cannot be reached by the laser. It is also better not to practice laser hair removal too young, because it will be much less effective. At less than 25 years for women and less than 30-35 years for men, the hairs have not yet reached their maturity and some hair bulbs may reactivate after laser hair removal. Depending on the areas of the body, several sessions may be necessary, which quickly raises the price of laser hair removal to have a final result. Generally, the results will vary depending on the area treated, the age, but also the hereditary hormonal factors that influence the growth of your hair.
